Computer advice from Reggio: Back-Up’s
|
Backing up you computer is as important as ever. Even with the best and most up-to-date anti-virus software and operating system updates, computers can still be infected and data lost. Computer hard drives still become corrupt and can fail. With the cost per gigabyte dropping every month and the introduction of larger capacity usb thumb drives, people can back up all of their important data easily and inexpensively.
The best and easiest way to backup your data is to save most of your data in one folder on your computer. You can then purchase an external hard drive or thumb drive and then drag this folder to your backup drive as often as you feel comfortable. Many of these drives now come with complimentary automated backup software such as Dantz Retrospect (www.dantz.com) that will automate backups for you. Also, as DVD burners become more widespread, especially the dual layer drives, you can also manually and automatically back up your data to these discs as well.

If you are using the default document folders in Windows, then these are the folders that you will need to ensure that you backup your documents and settings folder as well as your program files folder. Be sure to check with other important software products to see where they store data.
If you do have to restore your data, plug the drive into another computer or insert the DVD-CD. If you have used backup software, be sure that it is installed onto your alternate computers so that the data can easily be recovered. Also, it is important to keep the system restore and drivers discs that came with your computer. You will use these discs to restore your system to its original state, at which point you can reinstall any additional programs and restore your data. |
Girl Ventures Hike |
Every April, GirlVentures hosts their Mt. Tam Trek Fundraiser. We will be hiking in support of GirlVetures this year. The event takes place on April 23, 2006. The Trek consists of a 7- mile loop around Mt. Tamalpais and an insider’s glimpse to the magic and methodology of the GirlVentures programs. We are taking on this challenge in order to demonstrate our commitment to the empowerment of adolescent girls in our community. We have set a personal goal of raising $500.
We passionately support GirlVentures’ mission to empower adolescent girls to develop and express their strengths. GirlVentures was founded on the belief that every girl has natural strengths – courage, creativity, leadership, intuition, body wisdom, and compassion – to develop into a helathy woman. GirlVentures programs are designed to physically and emotionally challenge girls into new ways of thinking and relating within their environment through safe outdoor adventures, creative arts, and group experiences.

Since its founding in 1997, GirlVentures has impacted the lives of over 1,800 Bay Area girls. The girls served are diverse in experience, ethnicity, race and socio-economic status. Two-thirds of the girls who participate in GirlVentures programs receive full or partial tuition assistance. By supporting me in the Mt. 5 Tips for Marketing Your Website

Think strategically. Your Website should be a part of your overall marketing plan.
Choose a Website address (URL) that’s intuitive and easy to remember. Your company’s name (if it’s short) or the name of your main product might work well.
Put your Web address on all your printed material, including business cards, letterhead, press releases and invoices. Include it in all your advertising.
Don’t forget offline media and traditional publicity techniques. Send news releases

promoting your site to newspapers, broadcasters, and magazines.
Speak at conferences and trade shows, and write informative articles for trade publications. When you do, mention your Web address.

An Introduction to RSS
|
If you still haven't fully grasped what RSS is (or even heard of it), how it can benefit your website, and ways it can improve your information gathering, you are not alone.
RSS is still foreign territory for the majority of small businesses. So what is RSS?
There are many uses for RSS, but we’ll focus on RSS for webpages. RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”. There are many other similar acronyms, but they all mean about the same thing.
RSS allows for news articles to be fed into your website. A typical RSS feed box lists 3-10 articles by headline and the first sentence of the article. You can choose your feed to have a theme such as financial news, sports news, entertainment news, mortgage news, US or International political news… the list is infinite.
The list of articles constantly update itself throughout the day. This is a fabulous way to have up-to-date news always on your |
website without you having to manage it. It keeps visitors returning to your website as the content is always fresh. You can see an RSS sample on the BB Media Services home page.
Paul Stella, a client mentioned in previous newsletters, has RSS on his flash webpage. Not only can RSS be generated in html websites, but it can be generated for Flash animation websites such as Paul’s. For Paul it is a great way to have fresh content on his website along with the information on changing mortgage rates and his mortgage calculator.

Payment Policies
Beginning January 1st we will start charging late fees on invoices. Here is a review of our complete payment policy.
Every invoice is due upon receipt.
Balances 30 days past due are subject to an annual finance charge of 18%.
A late fee of $15.00 will be assessed on payments not received 30 days after invoice date.
If payments are returned by a bank (checks or credit cards), the client will be responsible for bank charges, as well as a $25 return payment fee and interest from 30 days after the original invoice was due.
The rates are subject to change. Clients will be notified 30 days in advance of rate changes.
Referral Program
Our business is 95% referrals. We would like to thank and reward existing clients for their referrals.
If you make a referral to us that results in a signed contract, we will take $30 off of your next bill. If you make a referral that results in a wedding website, we will take $10 off your next bill.
