Why Your Customers Abandon Your Site Before Buying?

You have a great looking site, fantastic products, and a killer shopping cart app. So why aren’t your customers buying?

Research shows that 56% of abandoned shopping carts are due to unexpected costs. If you ask your customers to pay $10.00 in shipping for a $5.00 item, they will balk. This is especially true now that shipping carriers are advertising low flat rates. Consider posting shipping costs within your product listing (i.e. Price $5.00 plus $10.00 shipping and handling). Also note from whom you must collect sales tax (i.e., “California residents add 9% sales tax”).

Scams that just won’t go away: Part 5, “Free” sign-ups that cost you.

It’s a free game, or a quiz or a survey. Looks amusing – “Are cat people more intelligent than dog people?” You enter your contact information, including your cell phone number, or your Apple ID (so you can’t take the survey more than once). And then you forget about it, as it was hardly something that would change your life. Well, maybe not your life, but it could change your cell phone bill. Next month there is a mysterious charge for $6.95. And if you don’t pro-actively stop it, it will show up every month from then on. Always read the fine print, and check all your recurring bills to make sure there are not stray charges.

Scams that just won’t go away: Part 4 – “BBB Customer Complaint”

There it was in my inbox: “Complaint Case 181818” and the sender was Better Business Bureau. Eek! What have I done? Who is so mad at me they’d complain to the BBB?

But wait – this doesn’t make sense. I’d know if someone was that mad at me. This is another scam. And so are the emails that say you have “incoming transactions” or “Your past due invoice” from a company you have never heard of. These scammers are hoping that you will open the attachment just to see what it is all about. If you do, your computer can become infected with a virus that will let them take over your hard drive, and harvest your passwords, your address book, and all your data.
